It seems to me, Malaysian leaders don’t care about their credibility, once they reach the level of leadership. It seems to me, Malaysian leaders are thick and will go against their very own words, just to stay in power.

The credibility of a leader may not be the most essential characteristic of a leader, but it is definitely a crucial factor in deciding whether to vote for the person. A person who is more credible will more likely get the nod.

We now see Ong Tee Keat going against his own words that he will resign if he lost the Vote of No Confidence at the EGM on October 10, 2009. Tee Keat lost. Whether by one vote or by 1000 votes, a loss is a loss. Had he won by one vote, it is also the same, a victory is a victory irrespective of the margin.

Tee Keat’s decision to stay on as President of MCA despite his clear and unequivocal words that he will resign if he lost the motion of No Confidence has made him less credible. How are we to trust a man who can’t even keep his own words?

But this is a trait common among Barisan Nasional leaders. People who have lost credibility still have the “thick skin” to demand to stay on.

I recall Najib explaining that Isa’s suspension from UMNO for money politics is merely a technical matter and asked that Isa be given a second chance.

But I must say this, Mr. Prime Minister – if a man is convicted of a crime, society should consider giving the man a second chance, but when a politician holding posts which involve public accountability, public funds and public utilities, the person must be as credible as possible. Former involvement in corrupt practices will taint his credibility.

The same applies for Ong Tee Keat. He lost the motion of No Confidence, and he has said it himself that he will go if he loses. So, as far as I am concerned, Tee Keat has lost his credibility by choosing this course of action.

  2. Whatever the case, the people behind the Third Force are still in MCA. What strange bedfellows they make. What about all the scum and skeletons that was dragged out by pro-MCA bloggers like Omar Goh Wei Liang and JUSTICE FOR ONG TEE KEAT from the closet?   5. By the same token, zaid ibrahim should be rejected. He was convicted by the same tribunal and on the same rule of evidence as Isa. So should Anwar who was convicted for abuse of power. A crime is a crime. Corrupt practice is a corrupt practice. You cannot apply different type of standards for different people for the same thing.

  6. OTK should not resign. He did say he would if any of the 3 resolutions was adopted. He is needed to clean up MCA and PDFZ affair for the Rakyat and for 1Malaysia. Most leaders in power have gone back in their words! and with no good reasons. OTK has a good reason. He should stay and we ( my friends and I) support him.

  7. I thought that OKT did publicly say that if any of the first three resolutions is adopted, then the Presidential Council and CC which collectively decided on the suspension of CSL must resign as a matter of principle.

    And I believe OKT did ask the CC to resign en bloc to make way for a new election. By pushing for a new election, isn't that not tantamount to wishing to resign from the post?

    If the CC members refused to resign, why should OKT. If he had done so, it would leave the leadership of the MCA in the hands of the traitorous minority group which controls only about 10% of the central delegates. It is their votes, the so-called Third Force that 'knocked' out both OKT and CSL.

    Principles must be upheld but it must not be at the expense of traitorous and treacherous groups getting a free ride to the MCA leadership thus putting a stop to OKT's quest to expose the PKFZ scandal.

    If not for the PKFZ scandal, I would not be bothered about this MCA leadership problem. But if OKT is going all out for the PKFZ culprits, he shouldn't resign. Calling for fresh election and recontesting the presidency is the most principled action.
