The Public Forum jointly organised by Bar Council’s Human Rights Committee, Constitutional Law Committee and Criminal Law Committee will feature Maina Kiai, United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association, who will speak on UN standards and world experience on freedom of assembly and association.

Maina Kiai had spoken on Malaysia’s handling of peaceful assemblies during his closing speech at the 20th session of the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva on June 2012.

Joining him on the panel are:-

(a) Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu, Member of the Bar

(b) S. Arutchelvan, Grass Root Activist and Secretary General, Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM)

(c) Encik Mohd Sha’ani (SUHAKAM Commissioner)
