SUHAKAM conducted a public inquiry into the May 7, 2009 arrest and overnight detention of 5 KL Legal Aid lawyers at Brickfields police station. The inquiry’s Panel of Commissioners, led by Muhammad Shafee and assisted by Datuk Dr. Michael Yeah Onn Kheng, and Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria found that the arrest was unjustified, unnecessary, and in clear violation of human rights.

The 5 arrested while they were attempting to assist a group who had earlier participated in a candlelight vigil were, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, Murnie Hidayah Anuar, Puspawati Rosman, Ravinder Singh Dhalliwal, and Syuhaini Safwan.

The complete findings of the inquiry can be read here.
