Leveling work at a field in Kampung Genting Peres, Hulu Langat

Tripartite collaboration between a state elected representative, an Orang Asli village and civil society organisations results in a community project in Hulu Langat

The Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR) is proud to present the launch of its UndiMsia!’s ‘Adopt-the-Street’ project’ at Kampung Orang Asli Genting Peres, Hulu Langat on 15 March 2014.

This project is spearheaded in close collaboration with the Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) of Dusun Tua, YB Tuan Haji Razaly bin Hassan and the Orang Asli community of Kampung Genting Peres. It entails the rehabilitation of an existing football field in the said village. The improved football field will provide a safer and more conducive space for the children of Kampung Genting Peres to enjoy their recreational activities. The field also has the potential of becoming a multi-purpose space for community events and festivals.

The ‘Adopt-the-Street’ project forms part of the larger UndiMsia!’s Empowering Orang Asli Youths initiative funded by the European Union. It aims to enhance ownership, participation and representation of Orang Asli youths with regard to their right to vote and voter participation. Since 2011, the MCCHR has developed and distributed multiple information, education, and communications materials such as infographics, posters, flyers, and videos to the youths within the Hulu Langat constituency. Workshops on the United Nations Declarations on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and awareness-raising campaign were also carried out in two Orang Asli villages in the same constituency.

All members of the media are invited to the launch of the UndiMsia!’s ‘Adopt-the-Steet’ project. In attendance will be YB Dr Che Rosli bin Che Mat, Member of Parliament, Hulu Langat, YB Tuan Haji Razaly Bin Hassan, Headmen of the Orang Asli villages in Hulu Langat, civil society organisations, and last but not least, a representative from the European Union.

The launch will take place at Kampung Orang Asli Genting Peres (aka Sungai Rambai) (GPS N3.12371 E101.95105) on 15 March 2014, 8:00am. Click here for the draft programme.
