UndiMsiaChats #52 – Anti Gerrymandering: 1 Undi 1 Rakyat 1 Nilai

The ‘Anti-gerrymandering: 1 Undi 1 Rakyat 1 Nilai’ campaign is the brainchild of the pioneer batch of #SekolahAktivisme participants. An initiative of the Malaysian Centre For Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR), #SekolahAktivisme is aimed at developing activists through coaching sessions that includes personality tests, personal character development, the different roles of an activist, implementation of campaign and others by professional coaches.

For its first campaign, participants of #SekolahAktivisme intends to raise public awareness on the negative effects of gerrymandering and malapportionment in the Malaysian electoral system.

Included in the programme is a seminar about the MCCHR Resource Centre and a talk about anti-gerrymandering by Dr. Ong Kian Meng, Member of Parliament for P102 Serdang. Dr. Ong has authored and co-authored various papers and articles on the subject matter, including, amongst others, ‘Electoral Delimitation – A Case Study of Kedah’, which examines the disparity of constituency sizes in Kedah after the 2003 Re-Delineation Exercise.

  1. What exactly is Gerrymandering?

  2. I would really love to attend this seminar about the MCCHR Resource Centre. This is mainly because of the fact that Dr. Ong Kian Meng is very knowledgeable about MCCHR resource center as well as issues to do with anti-gerrymandering.
