“Deliberation and debate is the way you stir the soul of our democracy.”  – Jesse Jackson

The LexisNexis Rule of Law Debate 2013 provides a platform by which issues on the rule of law are highlighted and discussed in a thorough and comprehensive manner. The debate, set to happen on March 7th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, features champion debaters representing universities from four ASEAN countries, who will debate the motion, “This House Believes That The ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights Is An Ineffective Safeguard To Human Rights.”

The ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights, which came into being in 2012, lays out universal human rights principles as a guideline in the governing of Southeast Asian regions. As pronounced in the preamble of the declaration, its main aim is to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as the principles of democracy, rule of law and good governance.

Whilst many have hailed the instrument as a huge step towards the promotion and protection of human rights in the region, many also question the quality of its universality due to its cultural relativistic deference to “Asian” values. The debate aims to create awareness about the ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights, stimulate discussions on its benefits and challenges and broaden the whirlwind of discussion on human rights issues today.

The event will bring together partners, customers and friends of LexisNexis in an intimate setting, enabling meaningful discussions on the topic. The aim is to create new partnerships, initiatives and projects which will further advance the rule of law in the region.

The LexisNexis Rule of Law Debate 2013 will be streamed live on March 7th at 2.30pm (GMT+8) with the hope that the discussion extends to all who participate virtually.

  1. Today education is only taken by most of the students just only for the sake of grades. Students don’t understand the thing that education is given to them for them but they take it for grades.

  2. There are certainly various tactics to evaluate this matter. As a a company owner of adamigo.com I have learned a significant courses regarding doing what you might be talking about. Even with my personal ad network, I will find it difficult since some sort of ad broker to be certain which all things are fully like this. Anyways, thanks for the words here, certainly created me personally think..
