Plot to destabilise govt | Yahoo News

From the Selangor Times 28 September 2012. Ask Lord Bobo is a weekly column by LoyarBurok where all your profound, abstruse, erudite, hermetic, recondite, sagacious, and other thesaurus-described queries are answered!

This week, Lord Bobo’s intergalactic mailbox ([email protected]) has been inundated with questions about one topic – the allegation that NGOs receive foreign funding with the ultimate aim of destabilising the government. LoyarBurok has issued a statement, which is available on the blawg (https://www.loyarburok.com/2012/09/22/lord-bobo-rants-onwards-world-domination/).

Dear Lord Bobo, what is the fuss about NGOs in Malaysia receiving funds from foundations like the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and Open Society Institute (OSI)? I love my country. Is it true that these NGOs are planning to overthrow our government? (Jaguh Kampung, via email)

History has shown that whenever the government led by Barisan Nasional (BN) feels threatened, it would seek out and create enemies in an attempt to unite the rakyat against the Opposition.

The Jews, Christians, Chinese, Bar Council, Soros and human rights groups are some of these mythical enemies of the State, which crop up now and then at key moments – especially nearing a general election when BN gets nervous, or after the results are announced when BN feels that it has lost substantial ground.

Sometimes it happens after a financial crisis or major economic turmoil. Sometimes it is used to kill off internal dissent within BN component parties, or to call an emergency.

This “fuss” is therefore not new. The last serious assault on human rights NGOs was at the height of the Reformasi some 14 years ago, where the same allegations were used to discredit the Opposition and Anwar Ibrahim.

BN appears to be at odds with itself – MCA and MIC being overrun by leaders unable to transform themselves only to be sidelined by the Prime Minister, and Umno resorting to its traditional race and religion base.

Panic attacks and nervous cracks are being plastered over by the pliant mainstream media, while several senior BN leaders have hopped away from what appears to be a sinking ship.

The regime needs “enemies”. These enemies purportedly seek the mass revolution of the rakyat to overthrow the regime and install a puppet prime minister controlled by American/Jewish organisations.

NGOs funded by foreign foundations are the conduits – here and there tactically using non-violent, direct action, mobilising the masses and crippling the economy.

His Supreme Eminenceness’ minions have been warned of this, and have in the past few years gone out of their way to educate the rakyat to not only ask for power in Malaysia but for world domination.

This can only be done if we free our minds, our hearts and our souls.

For far too long, the Government has been intelligent – by accident or design – to reduce us when we were young to soulless, uncaring and unthinking creatures.

It has failed, neglected, or refused to educate us of our constitutional and human rights.

We stood in the hot sun every morning holding up our palm reciting “Keluhuran Perlembagaan” without knowing what it meant.

When we are uneducated about our rights, we easily accept the assertion that human rights NGOs are strange aliens from outer space sent as foreign agents to ruin us.

That is far from the truth, but the truth is an irritating irrelevance when it comes to government propaganda.

There is no law prohibiting global funding by foundations and organisations such as NED and OSI.

The Malaysian government will not fund human rights work for fear it would expose their misdeeds even more. It fears to look itself in the mirror.

If receiving global funds is so abhorrent then as a matter of principle the government should never accept any foreign assistance. And the Malaysian AIDS Council should also stop its work.

Take a step back and ask – how much of Malaysia is already owned by non-Malaysians?

There are many angles as a reasonable response to the latest crackdown by the government on Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram). Of importance is for us to look at the work, policies, objectives and messages of these rights organisations.

Just because the government does not like to hear or see its own flaws is no reason to denigrate the good work of Malaysians who have sincerely and truly improved the lives of the marginalised, oppressed and persecuted.

Lord Bobo, the New Straits Times on Sept 21, 2012 suggested that you are being used by foreign hands to destabilise the government because you receive foreign funding. Is that true? (Off Balance, via email)

Once upon a time in a kingdom far far away, there was a rich fat man with three wives. Each wife bore the man one son, and each son was named Bijan. Bijan was born on the same day, at exactly the same time as Bijan, and so was Bijan.

The father and mothers agreed to give the sons the same name so that they would be treated equally in the household. So it was that the three Bijans grew up to be the best of friends and brothers. Everyone in the village knew of them and their identical names.

Upon turning 16, Bijan fell in love with his father’s cousin’s uncle’s daughter, Natla. But his love was unrequited, for she was in love with Bijan. Unknown to Natla, her Bijan’s favourite T-shirt had a V neck, which unfortunately for her, meant he fancied Bijan. It was a bizarre love rectangle.

What’s the connection between this story and your question? Absolutely nada. Zip. Zilch. The space between a Malaysian politician’s ears. Just like there is zilch between His Supreme Eminenceness and destabilising foreign hands.

His Hairy Lordship is the deification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, immaculately conceived, distilled from the raw collective consciousness of the hoi polloi (the many).

Lord Bobo is guided only by human rights principles, and not by alleged controlling foreign hands.

This accusation appears to be part of a concerted media strategy to demonise civil society groups, by utilising the oldest political trick in the book – when the message cannot be refuted persuasively, attack the messenger to distract the audience from the message.

And if the government can be destabilised by a blawg run by a group of minions mind-controlled by a wonder typewriting monkey that exists only in cyberspace, then it’s time for them to call it a day.

Have a question for Lord Bobo? Call on His Supreme Eminenceness by emailing [email protected], stating your full name, and a pseudonym (if you want), or tweeting your questions by mentioning @LoyarBurok and using the hashtag #asklordbobo. What the hell are you waiting for? Hear This, and Tremblingly Obey (although trembling is optional if you are somewhere very warm)! Liberavi Animam Meam! I Have Freed My Spirit!

  1. Ellese,

There are laws in the US prohibiting foreign funds to be pumped into Elections and sometimes they get channelled into NGOs to avoid detection. Ok, are you then saying that Suaram, Liberal Banter, and all the accused mentioned in NST, are really part of the Opposition's ploy to destabilise the government? Are you suggesting a conspiracy? Do you have proof? Because you sound like you have proof. I'm interested to know more if you do because I thought Suaram and company are just human rights watchdogs that lobby for better laws and fairer policies and/or treatment for Malaysians of all race, colour, creed and age.

  2. You're writing rubbish. The issue has never been receipt of foreign fund. This is the issue created by your ilk and your self. The main issue is receipt of foreign fund for political purposes. There's plethora of laws worldwide against this. From US to Japan to India etc.

So Suaram as a fact is not a human rights organization. It has prostituted itself into a political organisation. So don't con us. See write on "let's be clear on suaram " at hakbersuara. WordPress.com.

    1. "The issue has never been receipt of foreign fund" – "The main issue is receipt of foreign fund for political purposes"?

Look who is contradicting him/herself? What rubbish!

So if I am a non -poltico and I receive foreign fund it is ok? Hello my politco friends, you know where to send the money to now!

Personally I think its definitely better to receive foreign fund for whatever purpose than to raid our EPF/Petronas ala Najib/Mahathir! How stupid can one be!

    2. So sad to see so many are still infected with Terminal Mahathiritis. One of the key symptoms is the compulsion to distort reality and twist truth out of shape in order to compensate for one's deeply ingrained sense of inadequacy and to justify one's utter lack of nobility, sense of fair play and infantile need to win at all costs. These are the hallmarks of a man who will lie and cheat and poison his rival's coffee – just to possess a desirable woman (in this case an entire nation).

    3. "You're writing rubbish…" – Ellese.

OMG, Ellese!! How right you are!! IT'S ALL RUBBISH!!!

Ellese, I wish you would pay attention – look at the closing paragraph of the article (which I will quote for you below just in case you missed it).

"And if the government can be destabilised by a blawg run by a group of minions mind-controlled by a wonder typewriting monkey that exists only in cyberspace, then it’s time for them to call it a day."

Are you serious, Ellese? Wanna call it a day? Or at very least, just lie down and rest for a while? Pls?

    4. Dear Sad cafe, Antares and musang.

I have given you a referral which you obviously did not refer. You are definitely ignorant of what's going on in the world and your blind partisanship has screwed up your judgement.

There are a few countries outlawing it. See US laws on foreign contribution. Go and search US foreign Agent registration act and federal election commission act. Then tell me whether I'm wrong. If you are willing to learn I will then show you US case laws and laws in other countries.

Next time read before accusing baselessly.
