The folks at Diskopi together with the Strategic Information and Research Development Centre (SIRD) are offering a total of RM6,000.00 in cash for an essay and short story writing competition in regards to what happened before, during and after Bersih 2.0.

The competition is open to all Malaysians between the age of 18 and 30 years old. The theme of the competition is ” Capturing The Spirit of the Times”.

The competition is divided into four categories. Essay in Malay and short story in Malay, similar categories in English.

The short stories must be creative and can be based on actual experiences, imagination or a combination of both. (I know, that confuses me as well)

Essays on the other hand can be in the form of opinion, analysis, social commentary, critiques, debates or simply recollection of what happened during and after Bersih 2.

Writings shall not be more than 2000 words, saved in any format compatible with Microsoft Word and e-mailed to [email protected].

The closing date is on the 30th of September 2011. Selected writings will be compiled and published by SIRD.

The folks at Diskopi claim that the competition is held due to the realization and responsibility of collecting and recording the “zeitgeist” or the spirit of the times. The feelings, emotions and tribulations faced during Bersih 2.0 must be forever remembered in our society said the cool cult leader who writes for Diskopi under the pen name Mesin Cetak.

Meanwhile our own loyarburokker Lingswaran Singh who writes under the pen name The Desperado at Diskopi has this to say ” **** the government! and win cash! Don’t mess with the younger generation, cos they’d beat the votes outta you!”.
