A letter was sent on 23 June 2010 to the Bar Council President, Ragunath Kesavan informing him about errors in his Press Statement on the “Non Muslim Syariah Lawyer” issue. It has been over 3 weeks since and it seems to be case of unrequited love. The letter and press statement are linked below.

On the 23rd of June 2010, I had sent a letter to the Bar Council President Mr Ragunath Kesavan informing him about what I perceive to be errors in his Press Statement on the “Non Muslim Syariah Lawyer” issue. His Press Statement can be found here.

I was, later in the day, informed that he was not in Malaysia but was in South Africa for the World Cup 2010. I certainly hope he had fun in South Africa and enjoyed the blaring vuvuzelas. I, on the other hand, had to spend a few hours in bowels of the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, i.e. Basement 1 waiting for my case to be called up that afternoon.

I had entirely forgotten that I had sent the letter to him but just today stumbled across it in my drawer. It would be a little over a 3 weeks now (since the last World Cup match) and I have yet to receive any response from the President or the rest of his cohorts. I shall post my letter up here for all to read and ponder on. I welcome all conflicting viewpoints.

  1. Skukanesen/nelson,

    Thanks man.

Gentle reminder? Nah, Bar Council needs to be jolted. When you have a band of lawyers getting the law wrong, that is cause for much concern, complaint and vitriol.

    Deliberate use? Oh yes indeed!

    Regards,

    Aston

  2. While you are entitled to a reply within a resonable time frame perhaps a gentle reminder might have helped

By the way did you deliberately use the word 'cohorts' with its negative connotation it?

  3. Dear Aston, an excellent letter and a timely reminder to the Bar Council to be more vigilant in its press statements, because they have forgotten that some us do pay a slight attention to what they say. RM 50 says they won’t respond to it in the next 5 years!
