Revisiting the topic of Malay rights from one side of the fence but in view of all.

Ketuanan Pin Biru

We (and when I say we, I mean the non-Malays) often complain of the different privileges received by the different races. We condemn frequently organisations such as PERKASA, the “Ketuanan Melayu” mentality, and all the privileges that we see our Malay contemporaries get. We express disgusted disapproval of the inequality.

We whine that Malay is the national language and Islam is the national religion as opposed to our preferred language. Ah! We can also go on about how much sacrifice it is to go to a halal restaurant, because you have a Malay friend with the group.

So, one day say, the Prime Minister tells us that he has the mandate from the Malays and wants to negotiate a compromise. Mr. PM will ask of our dissatisfaction, and we will give him a long list: we want our children to be admitted to all public universities, we want to be given more business licenses, we want to either take away the Bumiputera discount or get the same discount, we want to be given the privilege to buy special shares so as to earn money, and the list goes on.

Mr. PM says, “Fine, we can come to a compromise and I can agree to at least half of your requests, but will you agree to give up vernacular schools and make our education system a one-school system?” Funnily enough, before he can explain how the individual vernacular language will be taught as an elective subject in all schools (private or public) and that it will eventually delete one of the many causes of racial disunity, the strongest protesters of that proposal will be the same persons who claim injustice in the first place.

If change is indeed a goal, there are sacrifices we have to make. We can argue until the cows come home that we are giving up our right to learn our mother tongue and our roots, but we are Malaysians and it is about time we should start acting like Malaysians. Our roots are all here in Malaysia, not in China or India. Do we really expect them to give up what they have been enjoying for more than five decades in the name of change without us making an effort at the same time? If we do, how then can we advocate for fairness?

As many would remember telling me in their wisdom to look at the big picture, and the big picture here is that giving up vernacular schools will mean lesser racial disunity. The usual trend is that the cliques are racial based and that barrier is language. Really, be honest, you would have used the excuse of not being able to have more friends of other races because of language. I have that problem.

The big picture is that if we can accept each other, we can learn from each other and the troubling PERKASA will not exist to protect the rights of the Malays.

The big picture is that there is hope for change.

  1. Why am I not surprised at minister Nazri propensity to put his foot in his mouth? Yet again we hear this silly comment about non-malays not being interested to join the civil service.

While it may be true that non-malays are not interested anymore to join the civil service, Nazri must ask himself why this is so. Making comments like "their culture indicates they are not interested in working for the government" only shows the honourable minister poor understanding of the nation's history.

First, non-malays serving in the civil service are routinely by-passed for promotions. If they are promoted, they only sit in the third-tier.

For example, in the education ministry, there are no non-malay state education directors. You will have to look pretty hard to find a non-malay in a position of power.

In the armed forces, where can you find a non-malay of the rank colonel and above?

It is not that the non-malays are not interested. It is because they realise there are no career prospects for them. Promotion for an ambitious non-malay is non-existent.

Forty years ago, the civil service had many non-malays serving because they had opportunities for promotions. Now, there are none.

If opportunities for promotion are there, the non-malays will join the service. If not, there are greener pastures everywhere which is only to the detriment of a nation seeking global recognition.

    Who benefits? Other neighbouring countries.

  2. Nazri – Don't be so emotional. You remind me of the quote from Seniman Bujang Lapok, "Bahasa melambangkan bangsa". You call yourself an 'enlightened Malay'. Is this how you carry out a discussion?

The first Malaysian to be the Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy was called Rear-Admiral Tan Sri K Thanabalasingham, from 1967-1976. Was he appointed as a favour to the Indians, who were only 10% of the population? I imagine he was appointed because he was the best person for the job, and I imagine that he served his country well, to be made a Tan Sri and kept on for nearly ten years. Would such a person be appointed today? There are hardly any non-Malays in the military left because they feel they will be discriminated against. This may or may not be true, but this is the perception. How come the non-Malays were happy to join the military back then but not now? Do you think the Indians today less loyal than the Indians then? Or is it that the system has changed for the worse?

And then because there are no non-Malays in the military, you accuse the non-Malays of being ungrateful. Why doesn't the government try to improve the perception? Why are there no quotas for non-Malays in the military and the civil service? Even if the quota is only 15%, it would show that the government is trying to welcome the non-Malays into the service.

I don't care what happens in Singapore any more than I care about what happens in Zimbabwe. This is Malaysia.

One of the biggest mistakes of the framers of the Constitution was to allow the Royal Malay Regiment to remain 100% Malay. The upshot of this was that twelve years later, in 1969, instead of protecting the civilian population, the RMR were sharing cigarettes with Malay rioters and shooting into Chinese shophouses for no reason. The Sarawak Rangers, on the other hand, were praised for being neutral and professional. The police, who were multiracial, were on the whole neutral and professional. You can go read the foreign newsreports on this that are unanimous on this point. What Chinese would want to join the army after that?

I have an uncle who served in the police, as did many Chinese and Indians. The chief of police in Penang used to be a Chinese. In my parents' generation the Malays, Chinese and Indians went to school together and mixed as friends. Nowadays, 98% of the Chinese go instead to the Chinese schools. Ask yourself, is this because the Chinese suddenly decided not to go to the same schools as the Malays and Indians, or is it because the national schools have changed?

Wake up and pull your head out of the sand. And please do not disgrace your regiment, whose name you have posted here.

  3. Karl, I feel compelled to think that your thoughts are a thousand times better than people like Qama. At least you have hope to be embraced as a true Malay and make this land as your descendants own promised land… unlike malay-rejects like Qama who have compromised their own sovereign identity on their own promised land in order to please other people's race based chauvanistic arrogance derived from a place located thousands of miles away…

What an idiot? If you're the host you dictate the house-rules but with Qama it's the other way around. I would love to be a guest in Qama's house… Qama would probably go to the extent of dancing like an imbecile in order to please the guest. *chuckles*

  4. Yes Danny I can proudly and gladly hold my conscience clear… because your ingrateful race would have done worst to my race if given the opportunity. The incriminating evidence still exists till today in the south where a lot of my relatives are still living no better than mere muscrats in what used to be their own ancestral land. Many Malays may have forgotten about the social history in Singapore but I and the rest of the enlightened Malays never will.

You hear from individual stories about the race discrimination in the service, yet recorded history tells otherwise. Go check it out… what's the highest rank in the military that a chinese managed to land in Malaysia? A Major General… that's a fucking 2 star general, another 2 star slightly short of a full-fledged general. Has Singapore which now is in the hands of your fucking ingrateful race ever been so generous to the Malays? Come, let's compare historically recorded statistics on what Singapore has to offer as compared to Malaysia as a benchmark of who is the lesser race based chauvanistic nation… if you want to fucking complain so much Mr. Danny Lo?

    1. Compare the number of higher rank officers (rank of Major and above) in the military service. How many Malays have Singapore commissioned and how many chinese & indians have Malaysia commissioned?

    2. How many chinese & indians have Malaysia commissioned as air force pilots not to mention fighter jet pilots as compared to the Malays in Singapore?

    3. Statistically, how many Malays are there drafted into the Singapore armed forces national service? You'll find that more Malays are drafted into civil defence which bears little significance in terms of national security agenda with a higher casualty rate during training.

    4. You verified it yourself in your above mentioned story. There was a Chinese Special Branch Officer in the service of the Malaysian Royal Police Force. Have you heard of a Malay Special Branch Officer in the service of the Singapore Police Force?… LANCAU!

    5. How many chinese & indian members of parliament are there in Malaysia as compared to how many Malay members of parliament are there in Singapore? Does it reflect the true composition of race distribution in their respective countries? By right true democracy means majority and the majority in Malaysia are the Malays… but how is it in some constituencies in Malaysia the Malays are made to give up their seats to give way to either chinese or indian candidates and still the Malays would vote them under the pre-text of their respective political alignment?

    6. How many chinese & indians be given the ministerial post in Malaysia as compared to Malays be given ministerial post in Singapore?

And the list goes on and on of the injustices inflicted on my own people "The Malays" on their own promised land. Yet you born of immigrant descent just need to shed your immigrant mentality and assimilate with us to gain acceptance of the highest level that your offsprings too may one day be privilleged and elevated as our top leaders and still The Malays would follow. It has been well recorded in our country's history where Tun Hussein Onn had Turkish blood, Tun Mahathir had Indian blood and Tun Abdullah had Chinses blood. Do you see this history recurring in India, China or Singapore for that matter?

Bullshit!… you only see what you want to see. You refuse to adapt nor change but you want to dictate the terms to gain acceptance based on your race based chauvanistic arrogance on a sovereign foreign land which already has it's own mould of culture, ideology and civilization long before your ingrateful ancestors came to these shores and you have the cheek to call "The Malays" racists and lazies? Lancau!

You think your race are so bloody good and superior? I don't see China nor India as the leading developed country on the world map. Infact much of the interior of these respective countries still remains underdeveloped till today although they are filled with chinese and indian people respectively contrary to the truth in your claims that your race is so industrial, productive and progressive.

Logically, why would anyone want to sustain a foreign land's economy when they can hardly sustain the interior economy of their own respective country of origin? The likely answer to this is actually an elaborate exaggeration on your part of your ancestors role and contribution to this country Mr. Danny Lo so that you can further lay claims based on a superficial history. True, they all came here to work but with no sense of loyalty betrothed towards this land unlike the Malays who have sinced made this land as their home… can that be the basis for future descendants to lay claims to the land?

Now before you disagree with my statement, allow me to remind you that if you tend to disagree, then we might as well acknowledge the role and contribution of immigrant Indonesians, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis… etc who are currently making up the major workforce mainly in construction and agriculture till today to be incorporated as substantial record as part of our country's history in moving and sustaining the country's economy so that their descendants in the future can lay claims just like what you did. So do you agree and approve to this notion? *chuckles*

  5. Nazri,

u proved yet again the reason of all these hates hurled onto malays. u r no better than those ingrateful immigrants that you condemned. ur words bears nothing but misguided facts and nonsense emotion. u r looking on 1 perspective only yet u claimed that as ur stand on these issues. who r u to welcome others to Malaysia? how dare u claimed that u owned the land up to the point you mentioned "please make yourself at home by assimilating even more with the Malays." u don't have rights at all, we r here as one nation regardless of our skin or belief.

    Nazri,

be wise on your words. i'm a malay n i'm not interested to join the armed forces. does that makes me an immigrant in ur eyes? just because i don't bust my ass on tarmac? i don't recall ungku aziz or usman awang lifting guns on their head thus shud u call them ingrateful? i don't blame you my dear friend. it's just that it'll take u years to realize what's going on around u. mix more with the non malays n u'll understand their concern better rather than letting your blasphemy assumptions on them.

    Danny Lo & Karl,

my sincere appology on behalf of my fellow malay chap. he doesn't know what's around him all these while. he had cooked up in lies all these while. i love your share of opinion. we are all in with these mess yet i believe we'll triumph in the end a one. i'm proud to have such acquaintances like you guys though we never meet. i can feel at home with people like you. xiexie!

    Helmi M Hussain,

yes, we don't want our youngsters to be racially divided. no point of crying 1Malaysia if we are not unite as 1 itself. still, mistakes by certain malay chauvinists will be on us. hope u can show that there is still hope and prove that people like nazri doesn't represent the whole malay itself.

  6. Nazri, i understand tht you're trying to point out the chinese and indian racists among us as opposed to the usually highlighted malay ones..

However, does any one of us really have to look back into history to find whether their ancestors had done enough to qualify the current generation as proper citizens of Malaysia? When this is the only country they know and know of nowhere else to go?

But even if they did,you would find,as Danny says,non-malays toiling and working towards a unified Malaysia/Malaya in the past, and moving this country forward, all this being lost among the history books we read today.

Go watch Fahmi Reza's 'Sepuluh Tahun Sebelum Merdeka', go read such works as Puthucheary's 'No Cowardly Past' and many others and understand that their contribution is invaluable as any.

You will also be shocked to know that some chinese and indians then demanded for Malay to be the medium of instruction in all schools to create a national identity.

We all were part of the scheme of exploitation by the Brits. We all suffered together, albeit in different ways.

And we all have a stake in this country, as it is mine as much as it is yours.

  7. Nazri,

Yes, there are a lot of hate speech uttered by Chinese racists here but you are no better. Your comments are full of hate speech too.

Also, I take that you are very ignorant of Malaysia History prior to World War II. Your knowledge of the history is solely based on what you have read in Sejarah in school which is obviously lacking in facts and abundance in Government racist propaganda. Here, I could quickly cite two sources: 1) The Geographical Journay, Vol. 29, 1907, and 2) The Economic Development of the British Overseas Empire, Vol 1, 1924.

It was the Chinese and Indian labor forces that sustained the economy development of "Tanah Melayu" prior to World War II. Wiping this off from the history book is a grave injustice done to the memory of this hard working work force that have contributed much to what made Malaysia today.

As for volunteering for arm services, let me tell another side of the story. I know a retired Chinese Navy Officer, the first thing he advices me about volunteering into army service is to prepare for massive racist discrimination. He cited his experience that when he was promoted to Captain, he was only given a small patrol boat with only non-malay navies to command because no Malay Navies would want to be under his command. Why? Because he is a Chinese.

Another story, my friend has always wanted to be police man. It was his ambition since young. So, after graduation from UTM, he immediately applied to join the police force. He failed, he was not good enough for Polis Diraja Malaysia, even though, he pass the IQ test, an athlete in Sukma, and of 180cm height with perfect vision. He didn't give up, he tried and tried again. He tried 3 times in total. Every time, PDRM rejected him without giving him any reason as to why he was rejected. In the third time that he was applying, I was asked to be one of his reference for the background check process. Subsequently I was interviewed by a Chinese Special Branch Officer. During the interview, the Special Branch told me to tell my friend to forget about getting in as he is deemed too smart, now, that alone will not be a problem. The problem is he is also an Indian. I didn't tell my friend that as I do not want to spoil his hope of ever getting into PDRM.

Yet, another story told by the father of a friend of mine, whom is a retired police officer. He related a story about a dinner function organized by the top brass of the police officer. One of the speaker there, he did not notice that there were an Indian Police Officer (only one Indian out of hundred and there were no Chinese Officer) in the hall. This speaker had made a clarion call to all his fellow officers to only promote Malays to become high ranking police officer. The call was made out loud and clear in a dinner function of the top brass of police officers.

Given this stories, can you still hold your position with a clear conscience?

  8. Eunice,

You be most welcomed to stay in Malaysia and please make yourself at home by assimilating even more with the Malays. The rest of you hopeless racist chinese & indian motherfuckers can pack your bags and go back to your respective identity country of origin.

I just got back after a month training from hell boot camp Rejimen 515 Askar Wataniah siri 1/2010 and there was not a fucking single chinese who volunteered in my intake. Go check it out for yourselves the recent statistics. Out of 79 comrades who graduated there were only 5 non-malays – 3 of whom are indians and the other 2 are Borneo Bumiputras. It doesn't even come close as to reflect the current population & distribution of the races in Malaysia… so fuck the rest of you who only know how to complain and I'd bloody say 1Malaysia my ASS to your face!

I looked around and I saw the faces of the brothers and sisters who volunteered and bled with me day in – day out on the regiment's tarmac for one whole fucking month and they were almost all Malays. Where are all the chinese? Where are all the indians? There should be at least a 30-40% representation from these respective races or do they feel that they are too bloody good to even consider to volunteer into service to defend their own God-damn bloody country if such need arises? The numbers made-up by the non-Malays doesn't even come close to 10%… so fuck you to whom who has the cheek to call the Malays lazy… you fucking hopeless racists chinese-indian ingrates! The next time a social unrest like 13th May 1969 occurs… guess who they gonna call to protect your sorry ass? Yes, it will be the police and the armed forces who till today are mostly made-up of Malays, by virtue of our long standing tradition of highly esteemed professionalism and love for humanity, we still will carry out our duty to save your sorry ass… otherwise you would not have even been borned here because the police and the armed forces who were mainly comprised of Malays back then 13 May 1969 could have easily and conveniently wiped out your ingrateful ancestors who in-turn bred more ingrates such as yourselves.

I signed up into the army volunteers, draw sweat – blood & tears on the training grounds and sacrificed my time away from my industrial business to defend and safeguard the basic fundamental human rights for people with hope like Eunice and the likes of her. But I sure did not sign up to serve the interests of ingrateful immigrant mentality bastards who in-turn would breed more ingrates and setup a racially alienized community to serve their selfish skewed agenda derived from a God-damn foreign identity originated thousands of miles away to be established in my own backyard and sovereign country.

If the chinese and the indians think they have sacrificed much for this country… I'd suggest that they go back to school and re-check their history lesson about this country. For every single sacrifice that the chinese and the indian ancestors make, the Malays have toiled a thousand times more. Think again… Back then, were there a sizeable community of chinese or indians on Tanah Melayu to work the paddy fields? Were there a sizeable community of chinese or indians going out to the sea as fishermen not to mention the contribution from other local rural industries to meet the ever growing demands of the increasing immigrant workforce during the British protectorate era prior to WW2? It was the Malays who first toiled these grounds as farmers and fishermen to feed the mouths of your fucking ingrateful immigrant ancestors? And till today, most of these farmers and fishermen descendants still toiled the grounds like their forefathers did, some even reduced to almost mere beggars on their own bloody promised land… while you fucking immigrant mentality ingrates got nothing else better to do except to harp and complain on the internet… FUCK YOU!

  9. Eunice, as adults… sadly, our "racial illness" might not have a remedy… most of us will take this illness to our graves. But we do not want this contagious disease to spread to our youngsters. I see your point of view and I love you for that.

    And peace to you too.

  10. Eunice,

You have failed to see the real reasons why minorities reject the idea of single stream school system. What you see is the symptoms not the root cause of racial polarization in Malaysia.

With all the racially discriminatory policies and practices in place. Shutting down vernacular school will not in anyway help to solve the racial problem. On the contrary, it would further alienate the minorities in this country. The mere mentioned of shutting down schools would be interpreted as a form of persecution upon the much aggrieved minorities in Malaysia.

The reason that Vernacular School thrive in Malaysia is because they are perceived as the only hope left for the minorities in this country to forge a better future for their next generations. The Vernacular school though not really superior in quality (if compared internationally) but is still much better than the National Schools, which suffer from an image of intense Islamization and rampantly practicing discrimination of race and religion in the eyes of the minorities.

Language is not the real reasons that parents sent their kids to Vernacular School. There are no laws that prohibit the introduction of Mandarin and Tamil in National School. Frequently, the proponents of single stream school had also highlighted this, but still faces fierce resistance from the Chinese and Indians. It is not base on cultural nor linguistic reasons that the Minorities reject single stream school system.

The reason is that there are much distrust on the Minorities side towards the authority. The Government, with its NEP and all the racially discriminative practices had lost its credibility in ensuring the minorities that their children would not be discriminated in a single stream school. This is the real reason behind the strong objection to single stream school system. Until the Government had proven itself that it is really fair to all races, the Chinese and the Indians will not buy the single stream school idea. Their strong knee jerk reactions have clearly indicated this.

So, you are right, we are not ready because we do not trust the BN government be able to treat our kids fairly in a single stream school system.

Anecdotal report of kids not chosen for school football team because of their skin color in National School by parents; and news report of racial slurs uttered by teachers in National schools further strengthen the distrust of parents against the National Schools run by the government. With these happening every year, you can't fault the minorities to view the proposal of single stream school system as another attempt of persecution by the authority.

  11. Dear my fellow countrymen,

I agreed and disagreed to all of the comments. some were factual based while some might cause by hatred. i don't blame any since it's what we have felt all this while. let me tell you guys a story of myself. i'm a malay, as per written in my birth certificate, considered as a "bumi" here. yet, my grandfather (my mom's dad), came from Kerala and married a local lady in nothern Perak. still, i don't speak Punjab at all. the only part indian of me are my love for spice, my nose and skin.

i grew up in a secluded village where 90% is malay and the rest is chinese/indian. yet, i was not allowed to play with other kids in the evening or even go out on weekend. my routine is tough with work after work given. do bear in my mind i'm referring to educational material. after whole day going to school (national school), i'm given time to eat, bathe and pray before start revising all study material and extra homework.

at night, i went to an Imam's house to revise the Holy Quran before returning home again to do homework. on weekends, i went to tuition classes till 6pm and then 3 hours at night to study. everytime i complained, my mom will scold me hard. then, my dad will console me by saying,

"son, there is only one man that you can and ever rely upon in future. that man is yourself. prepare yourself and never ask from people, only give."

i achieved 10A's and 2 B's in SPM, B for Arabic Language and Quran/Sunnah studies. during my stint in Matriculation, i sensed that most of the Malays there was not even up to the par compare to chinese/indian. i even knew a Malay with 1 A in SPM over there. during the college election, i gave a speech on how i wish more place for non malays and reminding malays not to rely on others to live. the result of the poll was obvious, i garnered 12% of vote. my college has 10% of non malay student, all voted for me and malay avoided me for that (except those who share same opinion, where do you think i got the extra 2%?)

when i got a spot in Exeter for a degree programme, i declined it after i found that my dad was about to sell the only piece of land owned to cater my bills. after years of climbing the corporate ladder, i found another shocking truth. my mom was a wing leader under Shamsiah Fakeh in her early years. my dad was one of those people that survived both Memali incident and Operasi Lalang. by taking that in account, i understand why my parent pushed me back in my early days.

i felt ashamed with malays in general. still, out there, there is still a few malay that share my beliefs. we care for the nation as well as the people. unfortunately, some political party is playing the racial card far too much. the place where i work is an international company with only 3 malay including me in my department that is sales/marketing. the rest is 29 chinese, 7 indian and 10 causcasian. still, nobody segregate me though my mandarin is bad (picking up already). we enjoy talking in "haru biru" multi language, mixing melayu, cantonese, mandarin, hindi, tamil and english in one fine soup.

i went to chinese wedding or indian funeral. i even went lepak in chinese stall and we share joke of me being the only one with teh ais whereas the rest is Carlsberg or Tiger. i had chopsticks in my house and my chinese/indian friends have sleepover at my house (taking refugee when wife/girlfriend in bad mood). my chinese friends don't mind waiting in the car while i went for my prayer in mosque and i don't have issue tagging along to cemetery when they pay respect to elders.

i understand that malay is lazy/stupid in all fields and even being hostile towards non malay. i hated them for that. my circle of malay friend is small. i tend to avoid those rigid and hate-mongers. i don't see any relevance of PERKASA at all. what they need top do is tell the malay to start working and competing, that's all! still, if my parent took 29 years to instil this mindset on me, we may expect the same or more from the government.

    Goodman,

please don't say harsh words on Islam. it's the malay at fault, not the religion. plus, justice in islam is regardless of race or belief. during the reign of Prophet Muhammad in Mecca/Medina, jews/christian/persian all able to live and trade without being regard as 2nd class though they aren't muslim. for the fact, he does not apply NEP at all. no privillages to Muslim or even 10% discount for Muslim to buy house. there is NO SUCH THING applied. pity it doesn't happened here though they claimed they are so religious.

  12. wood,

How about the other 40% in #3. What will happen to them?

Wonder why Indian send their kids to SRJKT …

  13. 1. Malay who think non-Malay will take over this country is out of his mind. >50% of our population are Malay, >50% parliament seats are taken by Malay and almost 100% of army/police are Malay, yet still feel being threaten? They are tricked by umno.

    2. Why SRJKC is better? very simple. Responsible teacher and headmaster, follow up closely and aggressive parents, and a lot a lot of homework. Check the weight of the school bag and you will know.

    3. Why Chinese send their kids to SRJKC? Because of #2. If there is a national school, 20% of its students will become doctors, 20% become engineer, 20% become lawyer, I'm sure a Chinese will send his kids to that school even it will cost him an arm and a leg.

  14. The hate speech is wonderful people,no wonder we're going down as a nation.

Again, hating so much the 'divide and rule' policy, some of you have failed to realise that you are again falling into the trap. Hating the 'malay' and everything connected to so-called 'malayness' or your narrow take on it is perpetuating the hate cycle and this is exactly what the ruling parties want.

Keep fighting and blasting everything "malay" so that they would have a reason to show the malays that they are under threat and therefore need to take radical action and feeding the insecurity that some of you have provided the platform for.

  15. No surprising with such emotion running high: More to emigrate. This is brain drain. Bolehland has no vision for its all people except for the Umno malays.

Who not afraid of the keris waving politician? Even my malay classmate emigrated to New Zealand recently, sick of the polemics and the politicising of religion here, good thing got money shall travel, no money no talk.

Should have left 10 years ago when I saw that we have no equal opportunities. But I hesitated and said there will be a change when Badawi takes over. Well! Guess that was not the case. It got worse and the future of Malaysia is bleak!

Pack my back and left the place to look for better opportunities and fight on merits. I am better off in Australia than the "dark hole" of Malaysia. At least you get respected for your recognition and skill. In Malaysia, how good you are is always a second class citizen. No promotion for us but their own kind.

NEP to malays is like drug to drug addicts. Once they started to taste it, they will never let go till they die. Tough they all know very well NEP is just like drug, not good for them in the long run, but they can't resist the short term temptation and fall deeper and deeper into the abyss of NEP.

Since now, the NEP had become Never Ending Policy, the little hope of getting out of the NEP drug will dismiss and leading to the destruction of the malays. By then maybe all the able non-malays had already emigrated to greener pasture in overseas. I forecast 2020 year is the doom day. Thanks to selfish Umno malays.

We are at our own liberty not to live in this controversial country. The government does not discourage us to leave this country. For Chinese and Indians, Malaysia perhaps is not a good place to stay because your mother countries too with China and India are now thriving. Just leave malays to manage their own country. Let Malaysia ruin with the malays.

The Chinese culture is compatible to other cultures in the world. The Chinese will have no problem adapt to other cultures in the world. There are many China Towns in overseas countries. So the Malaysian Chinese will feel at home wherever they go.

Real sick and tired of all these Umno babiputras, the sob in Malaysia Umno babiputras!

Yes, the only realistic proposition is encourage all Chinese to emigrate to Singapore and leave Malaysia for the malays. Trouble is Singapore is so small, its land mass will not allow a huge population to live in the island.

So next choice for the Chinese to emigrate is to Australia and New Zealand. The exodus has begun. Those who can afford now have started to go. The signs are already there.

There is no future in this country anymore. In a few years time this country will be in ruins when the oil money runs dry. FDI has already dry up and gone to other countries like Thailand and Vietnam. Foreign factories have closed shop migrated to China and India.

Chinese planning to emigrate should also consider option to return to China. Some of my friends went to invest there and within a few years become millionaires. There are much more opportunities and being Chinese there shouldn't be any problem.

By my own experience I can tell you that it is great being a new citizen in Singapore. You are judged by what you can contribute and not by some NEP policies.

The education in Singapore is also about the best in the world. Yes, even the educators from the native English-speaking countries adopt how mathematics and science are taught here.

Best of all, every time you cross the causeway to visit Malaysia you are rewarded by at least 2 or 3 times in your spending capability.

Oops……….now that this is happening, in the next 5 – 10 years, Malaysia will end up looking like the Philippines, where their main export is maids. Lack of income from tax, will see economy melt down. Skilled professionals all fled from the country.

Yet and having lived overseas, I have a nice bird's eye view of how Malaysia is heading towards the sewers.

Malaysia has spent the last 3 decades focusing on physical infrastructure without developing the human capital. Never mind the restrictions and stifling of independent minds – let us not even go there yet.

Let us start with basic education and providing of higher education opportunities for the best and brightest. We have cultivated at least 2 generations of dumbass.

Too many unqualified malays have been force fed into colleges and universities and the end result is you have the same bunch of witless village idiots, except now they are holding a piece of paper they don't know what to do with. A minority is absorbed back into the tertiary education system……….no prizes for guessing what that has caused over the last 30 years.

For the majority remaining, real world corporations wouldn't even hire them if they offered to work for free. So you have a bunch of jobless numbskulls who think they are too good for the common labor jobs, which they would have ended up in anyways given their aptitude and qualification, and desire a pen-pushing corporate position (if they could push that pen to string one coherent sentence in English, that would be another thing).

So we bring in all sorts of foreign labors to do our work for us, and we have a youth bulge of unemployable (and grossly unqualified) graduates walking around with a sense of entitlement.

Sounds familiar? It should. This is what is happening in the Middle East.

This trend towards greater Islamic extremism is also no coincidence. It is merely the natural path of development that a failed society embarks upon.

The malays have failed. Plain and simple. Their policies stink, they have screwed themselves more than they have others, in fact. The only reason the shit hasn't hit the fan sooner is because, like their desert co-religionists, they have petroleum propping them up.

That will go soon……….not totally, but it won't be at the present rate it props the country up. And it is closer than you think.

Those who can should emigrate and get the hell out – and that includes our malay brothers and sisters who have the means to. When the dust settles, no amount of cyber cities, longest bridges and tallest buildings, are going to save you from the disaster of a fourth world country that is being developed.

I am one of the cows applying for migration. How do I feel? I feel that the world is my home. If I am not treated well here, I will go to another country.

It is not about fighting for the country or fighting for the world. I am fighting for a better life and that is what everyone craves for.

Anyway why limit ourselves to one country when we can explore to other places. We only leave once, make the best out of it.

Well, the most popular countries to emigrate are Australia, New Zealand and USA. For those who wanted to emigrate to any of these countries and not prepare to pay the extra migration agent fees should consider apply themselves, it is not difficult as long as you meet the respective country criteria.

I know because I am a migrant myself and I helped my friends to emigrate to all those countries in the past 3 years.

  16. Part 1 – The origin of pendatang:

    · Malays – come from Indonesia and Yunnan.

    · Chinese – come from China.

    · Indians – come from India.

Part 2 – Why they come to Malaysia:

    · Malays – easy life, food aplenty around those days, like fish from the river etc.

    · Chinese – looking for a living.

    · Indians – looking for a living and goes back.

    Part 3 – Pendatang's attitude:

    · Malays – the words 'relax la', 'bantuan kerajaan' and 'cukup makan' are their daily words.

    · Chinese – work, work and work but also spend.

    · Indians – work, earn and save but spend little.

Looking at the mindsets of various pendatang. You tell me is it possible to be one Bangsa Malaysia? Never! For oil will never mix with water.

If you tell the Chinese to close down Chinese schools, the children will not taught to be hardworking anymore, so they become lazy and can they ask for bantuan kerajaan?

No! Right? So let the Chinese have more Chinese schools to teach the principle of hardworking, integrity, trustworthy etc, thus others can get more shares.

Those days the government control the Chinese schools is because of communist. Now where got communist again? Bodoh!

  17. The truth is Chinese inject entrepreneurial and economic progress in South East Asia. If the Chinese left Malaysia, your economy would be on the verge of collapse and will become little more than a backwater hellhole.

There are very simple reasons why Chinese do not fully assimilate into malay society. It is because the malay people are very hostile and disrespectful to the Chinese. It is well ingrained in their society, this anti-Chinese sentiment.

Also, given this hostility, why should Chinese integrate with your society? Let me tell you, it is a very simple reason. Unlike primitive tribesmen minorities in your territories, our civilization and culture is actually far superior than your malay culture.

We are the inheritors of one of the greatest civilizations in human history. Why do we want to downgrade our cultural knowledge and perception, and accept a backward and undeveloped primitive culture?

You Malaysians, Filipinos and Indonesians need to learn from the example of the Thais. They are friendly to Chinese and many Thai Chinese are very integrated and are loyal to Thailand. However, they also have links to China and bring the two countries closer.

Hence, China and Thailand enjoy very strong relations and all of this bodes well for Thailand economically and politically. It is no wonder Thailand has experienced a great deal of economic progress.

Too, I lived in Malaysia before and let me tell you that Malaysia is not rich. The government owes a lot of money to Japan and other countries. The nation is corrupted! In outside look, you think Malaysia is rich but the truth is Malaysia is very poor. A lot of projects have been cancelled such as new airport in Kuching, and etc.

Indeed right, in Malaysia the malays are like shit. They disrespect the Chinese. And you want to know why the malay government has money? It is because the tax! Chinese pay high tax to the malay government where the malay government even use quota control!

The malays given of special treatment, the government give money to the malays because without this, the malays will have nothing! We Chinese in Malaysia depend on ourselves! We earn money on ourselves!

The Chinese in Malaysia is dropping rapidly, one day and one day will come, when the malays don't like Chinese and riot, then we Chinese move away and hahaha! Malaysia will become like Indonesia!

Now look at your Indonesia, last time when Chinese there, the government can be rich. Now when Chinese gone – your country like shit! Hahaha! This is dream funny!

  18. Is the language diversity in our educational system a stumbling block to so-called national unity? Despite the insistence of this idea by the self-interested ruling elite, it is simply wrong.

And the common use of English did not stop Americans from fighting Britons in the War of Independence. And let us not forget the American Civil War – both sides spoke English.

And to the contrary, we see Europeans of different mother tongues coming together in a democratic manner to forge a united continent in the form of the multilingual European Union with common standards of human rights, governance and democracy.

English-speaking people with different mother tongues are also now living peacefully in five different sovereign and independent countries namely the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

It is time for the Malaysia ruling elite and their ideologues to stop spreading the voodoo of that language diversity hampers national unity.

The root cause of national disunity is none other than the existence of race-based political parties like Umno, MIC and MCA, which perpetuate race-based affirmative action policies and which only benefit the upper class BN gangs and their sons, daughters and cronies.

  19. The truth hurts.

The Chinese or the yellow race is what brings progress. Just look at Asia……….is enough.

Whether they do it internationally or locally they will survive.

We can distinctly see the lowering of Malaysia standards of living as the percentage of Chinese in this country goes down.

In the 70s we were tops with 40 over percent of Chinese and today with only 25 percent we are far behind Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea.

Main reason is the number of such Chinese migrating to these countries – the best ones and rich ones.

Next ten years as the percentage goes even lower, we would be nearing Indonesia or Philippines.

Meanwhile enjoy your stay and the good time.

On the whole as the Chinese spreads out throughout the world, the average standards of these will have much higher standards of living over others.

  20. This race stereotyping is actually the work of the present day government, headed by the Umno racist using race and religion as a tool to stay in power.

The native of this land a.k.a. son of the soil are the native (Dusun, Iban, Kadazan, etc) of Borneo and the Orang Asli (Dayak, Jakun, Sakai, etc) in Peninsula. Not you malay arrogant pieces of shit!

Before the arrival of Islam into Malaysia, the different races live in harmony without questioning race or religion. They may be cultural different but they accepted each other.

After independence, race was used by the Umno racist, and then formulated the NEP, which divided everyone. The Umno fascist use Islam in schools, universities and workplaces to segregate, and in the name of fighting PAS.

The modus operandi of Umno has always be, divide and rule, and the devil is in the detail and implementation of the religious department.

Umno is king in creating diversion, when they are cornered, use race and religion. Race and religion is the most explosive issue and they have used it successfully since independence.

All this is done to perpetuate their hold on political power. It is for Umno benefits to play the race card, because this is the only way to ensure their hold on to political power. And 50 long years have proven them right. The race card works well and works every time!

They have succeeded in keeping the races apart socially, and fanned animosity amongst the races with their discriminatory and racist politics.

All give politically reasoning – well here goes a correct one – malay is lazy because of Islam.

How can one pray 5 times and yet be expected to be productive? Wait for the foreigners to come and set up their factory and having to cater for Islam needs!

If malays embrace other religion then there is hope for Malaysia otherwise your hope is in the existence of Umno terrorist liars – don't count on them being there forever – we are factoring in Umno racist absence in our business plan!

The problem with malays is that they forget too easily. It was the Chinese, Indians and Malays who fought for the independence.

The NEP was design to help the malays catch up with the Chinese and the Indians. Now looks like after 40 years, malays are still behind and very proud of it.

Still want to receive handouts from the government! Still afraid to fight it out on fair ground with the Chinese, Indians and other races! Fearful is the malay race!

Without the government subsidies and supports – I don't know how many malay businesses will still stand? So when can we see some towering malays and who dare to refuse government help and still succeed?

Grabbing other people success and call it your own success is not success but a disgrace!

Their laziness caused the nation's economy to slump and resources are wasted. They take 5 days to complete a day work. Malays always think that they are helping the other races when they are lazy. For God sake, please wake up! You are doing it for your own, not for anybody!

Majority of the nation need to be educated again. On the meaning of Malaysia.

  21. goodman, i dont think that name suits u. u should change yr name to anything other than good, even better the opposite of good.

  22. Goodman is an HonestMan. Hard to find these days..Most bloggers simply don’t have the balls to be honest. Like Goodman!

The thesaurus does say complacent and lazy are synonyms. Check it out.

I do not agree that it is a ‘genetically flawed race’, but I have to agree that Islam must be extinguished in this country before we can even discuss about uplifting Malays. But that is gonna take a while… What did you expect after yourself saying ‘genetically flawed race..’

Meanwhile, apologetic Eunice needs to look relevant, and poor Loyar needs to keep the web hits up!! So, what did you expect..

  23. It is undeniable that malays are stupid, incapable and lazy. Why don’t they just humbly admit the facts and repent and learn from other races especially Chinese?

What is the point to argue here and wasting time again?

From the first onwards we were merely telling the truths. It wasn’t us who think that way but their own Badawi as well.

All malays should go and read the newspaper, even Badawi is ashamed of maintaining the NEP after 34 years of implementing it and these malay baboons are still asking for it.

Even Badawi wanted them to compete on a level playing field.

So what does all these tell the world? It sends a very clear message that it is malays themselves who are incapable and lazy and they don’t even want to admit it and make a change!

That is the biggest shame of all.

Can’t you see, it is all back to square one. Year in, year out, some talk for half an hour, some one, some two. Some sing, many belt out their most recent released ‘pantun’.

After all. Malays are good at that. Suggestions after suggestions, some good, some impossible to realize.

But, do you see any of these materialised? Hardly. Why, why and why???

Because the malays can never change. Never! Why?

The leaders forgot it or were they simply didn’t want to address and admit that the actual disease is the malays and the remedy itself is also, the malays. They can never change. What is it about the malays?

Firstly as you all know, they are a lazy species. Since the beginning of time they have been like that. Even the encyclopedia called them as lazy people. I think those British with their accent tried to call them ‘malas’, and if you put ‘y’ in, it becomes ‘malays’.

Embracing Islam make them a worse lot. Now they have a license to kill anything that gets into their way.

Malays are ungrateful lot. In reality, they just can’t live or open their minds for others. When Mahathir said that they are complacent, they put him in jail. When Mahathir encouraged them to learn English language, they got angry with him, saying it is a ‘bahasa penjajah’.

When other races ‘maju’, they got angry with them too. That was why at the end of Mahathir his regime, he said this, “I have achieved greatness as a prime minister, but I only fail in one thing, changing the malays.”

Well, nothing to be surprised about anyway since Mahathir is not really a malay, and I guess that was why the malays were angry with him.

Drug abuse, hate, incest, liberal extremism (culture of miniskirts and gay marriages), murder, parochialism, racism, rape, religious fanaticism, snatch theft, spoilt bratty behavior, tribalism, wife abuse, child abuse, all that is associated with the malay race.

To them, malay is the biggest impediment towards building a truly Malaysian nation, and should be chucked into the dustbins of history.

A genetically flawed race cannot be fixed by politically. Nature will take its course and globalization will put them out to pasture.

    What have we got now?

Brain drain, economic disparity getting wider, poor education system, racial segregation, widespread corruption, inefficiency and uncompetitive on the government departments and others.

Sad. Sad. Sad. The question asked by many of my fellow Chinese is this – Why can’t you just tell the malay peoples to adopt Chinese culture which is superior?

From research, this peninsular was part of the Siamese empire way before these malays from Indonesia invaded it.

Still so thick skin, don’t want to go back to Indonesia!

  24. There are so many comments, i dont even know where to start.

By the way just to put on record, I am a product of a vernacular school. My Bahasa is bad, and if I do not force myself to speak it (and put aside being embarrassed of my bad malay) to the Malay friends that I now have, I will not have malay friends, except those who speak english.

Better education? I am not so sure, that a vernacular school offers better education. I mean, the quality of our education system needs huge-ass major reforms as it is, whether or not vernacular school or malay medium school. So, you cannot use quality as an excuse to keep them. And on a side note, my days at the chinese school was torturous.

Vernacular school is not the main reason for the racial disunity, but it is one of the reasons. Dont you all who say you want change be ready to rid of any cause for racial disunity? And you cant just want change whenever it suits your convenience, because i am sure it is definitely not convenient for the Malays to give up their special rights in exchange for a new dawn. Why cant we all just speak one language? The british born chinese in UK speak english, the British born indians speak english and they do not fight for vernacular schools. And by removing vernacular schools does not mean we are giving up our roots. I have mentioned that one school system with the condition of the individual elective subjects offered in schools and now to add on, exams as well.

And no, i dare not claim to be speaking on behalf of all non-malays. I am just trying to make people see from a different point of view/angle.

Nonetheless, I see clearly, we are not ready. Cant blame me for trying, can you?

    :)

    Peace

  25. Karl: I agree, which explains why so many left the national system when English was replaced by Malay. But most Chinese parents nowadays simply want their children to have a good education and to be able to speak Chinese, English and Malay. The only place they can do that now is in the Chinese medium schools.

Temenggong: I don't know where your figures come from. In 1972 (West Malaysia), the English stream was 12% of primary pupils and 66% of secondary pupils. The Chinese stream (including independent schools) was 29% and 3% respectively.

  26. The point you miss is that in many parts of the country the national schools are Malayised and Muslimised and no longer seen as 'neutral ground' where a non-Malay can receive a proper education. I don't know if that is the cause or the effect of the exodus of the Chinese and Indians, but that's the situation we find ourselves in now.

What is clear is that the vernacular schools only became as popular as they are now when the English schools were converted to Malay. In the past schools such as VI, SJI, St Xaviers, PFS, etc. were the top schools in the country and were popular with parents of all races. Now they don't even feature in the Government's discriminatory list of so-called 'high-performance schools'. The easiest way to reintegrate the various races into a single schooling system would be to reintroduce the English stream. Alternatively radically overhaul the Malay stream by increasing the provision for English and other languages.

The point is that we quite rightly have freedom of choice in education – if you improve the schools, parents will come. You will not improve the schools by reducing parents' choice in the name of national integration.

  27. James,serenity,"tonypua"..

You have quite possibly fallen into the trap of Divide and rule that you so much despise and that the government has been applying..

Is it not working when you would rather have such absolute stands, whereby you risk further alienating yourself, and directly or indirectly, furthering the gap between the races? Compared to having to learn a certain sort of spirit of compromise that has actually been lost through the decades.

Sure, the 'non-malays' are not the only ones who should change or 'sacrifice' certain things, but also the Malays, with their unnecessary quotas and whatnot.

And of course we have a class struggle over here tht they refuse to acknowledge. However, the years of indoctrination have caused some of us to feel a certain sense of 'race struggle' and tht is actually the sad reality which we need to acknowledge and start to change.

  28. “Mikey on 14 May, 2010 at 12:57 am

“Give up SRJKC/T/Sekolah Agama, all school united under one roof. Best teacher for all our children.”

    Mikey,

Give UP “sekolah agama”???? I will be very glad if this happen. But only in dream.

  29. Eunice Ong,

I don't blame you for your short-sightedness and superficiality, because you are simply to0 naive to see the truth. The truth is, there is no disunity in the country other than the play up of Najis UMMO. This is the divide and rule strategy which has been used by UMMO putra to enslave the rakyat. Perkasa is set up for this purpose.

  30. I think people interpret ‘divided’ differently. It does not mean that we hate each other, but that we group together based on race. It does not mean we exclusively have friends from one race, but it does mean that most of our time is spent with our own race.

Shared language/culture contribute to that. Its nice to kick back and relax with people who have the same background as you.

It is a myth that vernacular schools are inherently better than national schools, especially when they have the same syllabus. There are good schools and bad schools in both types. The Dutch education system mentioned by A Toong has Dutch and English as compulsory subjects, which ensures a majority of the population speaks the same language.

It is unlike what we have now where our children are segregated in different schools and have minimal exposure to other cultures until high school, university or work. When that happens they tend to clump together and self-segregate because they don’t understand how to interact with other races.

The longer people stay in the vernacular environment, the more obvious the problem when they get older. So those who only went to primary school level, like Lee Wee Tak, integrate better.

Multiple education systems that segregate based on culture/language do not help our children integrate, no matter how many inter-school activities there are.

I would rather have one education system where children can learn BM, Chinese, English and Tamil to build up a shared language. If the vernacular school has BM as a standalone subject, then the national school should have vernacular languages too. Then our kids can kick back and relax with each other when they grow up.

I’m not saying the education system is solely to blame. But it does contribute to the division. Take the term ‘mother tongue’, I thought Malaysia is our mother, not China/India.

I agree with Eunice, we can’t fight for equal treatment and still hang on to to traditional institutions that divide us. I state it this way because I have met parents who knowingly send their kids to a bad vernacular school. Why? Because of tradition, its a racial thing. There is something wrong with a society where people sacrifice their child’s education out of a sense of tradition.

  31. @A Thong : Take a look at the Dutch education system. The schools there have streams for Dutch, German, French and English language.. but did it caused the break up of Holland as a nation or disunity of the Dutch people ?

    All managed under one roof.

  32. We live in multi racist society.

Sometime I feel some of non malays, SOME, not all, tend to complaint a lot, WITHOUT any intention to solve the problem.

Army, Navy, Airforce – low pay salary

    Policeman/Woman – low pay salary

    Postman – low pay salary

JPJ, customs officer, the list go on.

Better be Ah Long. It better for them to work for themselves rather than working with Gov. providing services to public, protecting our nation.

For rempit manace, who provide all the racing performance part? The WHOLE suppy chain of spare part are controlled by non malay.

Most of the workshops providing services for rempit, who manage it?

"but we pay taxs" – yeah, right, tax from pirated DVDs, prostitution, illegal gambling, loan sharking.

I also don't agree with UMNO/Perkasa action (13th May gathering? WTH? waste of time). But I believe they exist to bring the balance, to cater with revengeful racist among non malay. at least you can understand what Perkasa saying, we can't understand pinyin Dong Zhong (or is it ding dong).

And for NEP, bumiputera status, etc. NOT ALL malay gain benefits from it. This is FACT.

You can see lot of this racist (closet racist – RPK) in this netsphere. As I mentioned earlier, SOME of NON MALAY, not all.

and, I (or we) become more and more racist by reading some baseless comments/postings/generalization by our fellow non malay malaysians here.

  33. Andrew, true,we have to reform the education system so tht parents will have faith in sending their children to national schools.

However, another important issue here is,in my opinion, some people simply choose a school for their children other than on the basis of quality of education.

Simply put, prejudices still get in the way for us to truly instill a Bangsa Malaysia in all of our children.

  34. Eunice.. keep up the good work. We need people like you to unite the country. I’m in the education system and what is happening is worst than ever. Most of the people who are giving their comments here don’t actually understand what is going on. Youngsters now do not mingle with different races. Chinese students from Chinese school don’t even mingle with Chinese students from Sekolah Kebangsaan. What more, different races. Yes, I am a Malay and I can say this, as long as the non-Malays are fighting within the context of races, the Malays will also do so. In the end, our gap will be greater and greater.

  35. What makes Malaysia unique, is our differences between races. By embracing our difference, does not prevent us from being united. So stop accusing different streams of education is accountable for what the country is facing now.

Some said, why do we even need to mention that we are Chinese, Malay or Indian? We could just omit those and just claim ourselves as Malaysians?

Fact 1, we ARE Malaysians. Fact 2, we ARE Chinese, Malay or Indian, who have respective culture, values and history.
Do you not think that these two Facts can be co-exist?
By embracing and remembering Fact 2, will not deny Fact 1.
Our difference, shall not stop us from being proud Malaysians.

  36. 1.Excuse, while you condemn Perkasa, then what is Dong Zong doing? Applying the national language of A FOREIGN COUNTRY for certain schools and preventing children fo certain schools from going integrating with students of other races.

2,It is really stupid for the DAP which have been harping the Malaysia concept when Lim Kit Siang the real racist have been defending vernacular schools that SEGREGATE OUR PEOPLE.Please don't forget thaty it is the DAP using the Allah issue to win votes….not the PPP or BN or even UMNO.

3.Why is it that many non Malays especially the Chinese have no qualms going to Auttraloian or British schools but make big fuss about about going to National Schools in Malaysia. Please implore me, who is the racist?

4.Opportunities? LimmKitSiang got his answer from MOHE that 54% of JPA scholarships have been given to the non Malays…how much more before you are satisfied? Enrolment of Non Malays in IPTA have also been high,as our IPTAs expand more and more non Malays are readily accepted..it the the stupid non Malays who went overseas who do not realize this.

    5. The government under the auspices of UMNO and its alliance with MCA and MIC and many component parties have been gradually opening up opprtunities to the Non Malays as the Malays socieconomy improves yet many PR douches do not realize this and harp on racist and insesitive issues like the Allah issue and brand everything Malay as evil…what is wrong with having a banner 'melayu bangkit' on May 13th…do you non malays even go there to hear what they were disucssing.Think who are the racist la..use your head.

  37. tonypua,

you are right,,,divide and rule strategy to enslave the rakyat (working class) and empower the elites (businessman and politician)

we are not in a race struggle but class struggle in fact. similar like thailand.

  38. Suharto banned Chinese schools and Indonesian from learning the Chinese language for more than 30 years.. At end of his reign, the Chinese language was almost rooted out from the Indonesian Chinese community. Now, Indonesian Chinese speak fluent Indonesian..

But did it bring about “unity” or integration of the Indonesian Chinese into the Indonesian society?

Did it prevent the Chinese from being discriminated, singled out and salvaged ??

In Malaysia, language and race are being used by BN/UMNO elites as red herrings to cover up their plunderings of the nation’s wealth. Just like what Suharto and his cohorts did in Indonesia and what the British did during the colonial era..

Take a look at the Dutch education system. The schools there have streams for Dutch, German, French and English language.. but did it caused the break up of Holland as a nation or disunity of the Dutch people ?

Chinese and Tamil schools follow the national syllabus and BM is a compulsory subject !

Please don’t put the blame on SJKC (Chinese) or SJKT (Tamil).

The BN gov’t only provide 3% of the development fund for education for these schools. With 97% of the allocations going to National schools, the BN/UMNO gov’t can surely provide a much much more superior quality education for National schools as compared to Chinese or Tamil schools.

Parents will naturally enrol their children in National schools if the standard is good or better than Chinese or other private schools !!

  39. mid,

    Kowtim,

Give up SRJKC/T/Sekolah Agama, all school united under one roof. Best teacher for all our children.

our children grow up together like we used to be, long time ago.

Give up religion? Are you a communist?

Culture? No need, why you need to give up culture? I'd love to learn lion dance.

    Identity? Up to you.

Equal Right? Tell me if there is equal right in this world? where? singapore?

Baseless requests. Any civilize people will understand this simple logic.

  40. ""look at the big picture, and the big picture here is that giving up vernacular schools ""

What next? Giving up religion? and then culture? and then Identity? Why always the non-Malay must giving up? The non-malay never ask for any giving up from Malay?! The Non-malay just asking for equal right. Is that wrong? Any civilize people will understand this simple logic.

  41. The question you should be asking is what makes vernacular schools so popular with the 'pendatangs'(and also with the Bumis?(

Just look at the reasons below and you will now why parents prefer to send their children to vernacular schools.

    1. pathetic state of our 'national' schools

    2. poor quality education that our children is receiving

    3. access to schools for the rural poor pendatangs

    4. lies and intimidation.

It's no longer a question of being Chinese or Indian.

    Not anymore.

  42. Eunice, u strike me as a person who has not been to a SRJKC before.

What is the problem if we Malaysians have choices in education systems? Diversity is strength. Accusing vernacular schools as an agent of division itself is without substantive evidence, base on sentiment and unfair

I have been taught in SRJKC to love my country and my fellow Malaysians. I have been taught to respect all races, laws, family values and all that.

I have Malay, Indian friends. I do not reject them just because I am from SRJKC

when I speak to a mainland chinese, a taiwanese or a hong konger I can relate to their mindset and represent Malaysia in a favourable light yet I am equally comfortable boraking like a loyar buruk with my PAS friend in a mamak store

I am proud of the pressure, pleasure and tough life in my 6 years in a SRJKC and another 6 years in a "semi-government" school, whatever that means.

I have been exposed to the teachings of the great ancient thinkers of China. One phase I shall never forget is when a Prime Minister told his Emperor "worry before your subjects worry, and be happy only after your subjects are happy"…imagine a form 3 students having a chance to chew over such a philosophy

No, having multi stream education is not a divisive thing, it is an enabler of people in differnet fields. People should have the option to choose. As long as the syallabus promote patriotism, and we have more inter-school activities then I do not see any problem

It is even a happy challange for all Malaysians to practice multi-culturalism and yet able to unite. Having vernacular schools is also a form of respect for other people's culture.

  43. but we can reach a compromise of course. make all our national schools international standard. like in singapore. then no one will send their children to vernacular schools anymore.

  44. RE: Cooloc

You are talking Chinese in China and Indians in India.

    Please bare with me here.

The writer is talking about the non-Malays in Malaysia. Get it?

We can see you are very proud, and flat out discriminate Malays as a whole.

  45. Its sad to see people getting so defensive. Look Eunice is correct. The buck has to stop somewhere. Why not with you? You claim you are Malaysian but you condemn and critise your country to no end saying its been unfair and discriminating. Yet you do the same thing your country does albeit on a micro level. You prefer to have friends who speak the same language, you prefer to work with people who speak the same language, you prefer people who share the same religious beliefs etc. No one is saying the country is perfect but get this the country is yours. What you do affects your country. You start sending your kids to national schools and only national schools, get them to mix around with their fellow Malaysians freely, will there be discrimination when your children become leaders of tomorrow? Definitely not. Why? Because they learned to mingle. We saw this when there was only one type of school under the British. It was only when people became power hungry, vernacular schools were formed. Why? To divide and rule means only one party will be in power! People the buck has to stop with you. Discrimination happens everywhere but will it stop with you? I am a Malaysian before anything else. I love my country and am willing to change it. Question is are you? Its not perfect, no country is, heck no one person is perfect but it is as good as you make it out to be.

  46. Re: P1 on 13 May, 5:21,,,,

    You said it all. And…

how can it be a problem, when one knows some extra languages and cultures than his cohorts, like many of those non-malays in Malaysia?

People who are ignorant, myopic and narrow minded are the problems. Don't blame others.

  47. I think this message is not about education. The writer is suggesting non Malays are arrogant, selfish, demanding as opposed to the other side which the writer is suggesting as accommodating, generous and understanding.

    Don't give us this shit.
