Where are the Malaysian Public Intellectuals?

Who is a “public intellectual”? Hitchens explains.

In 2008, the top 100 public intellectuals in the world were listed. Why was no Malaysian included whereas they were?:

Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore

Anies Baswedan, Indonesia

Fan Gang, Hu Shuli, Minxin Pei, Wang Hui and Yan Xuetong, China

Ramachandra Guha, Ashis Nandy, Sunita Narain, V.S. Ramachandran and Amartya Sen, India

Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh

Aitzaz Ahsan, Pakistan

A poll was then conducted. The results of the poll may be found here.

So, where are the Malaysian PIs? Do we have any?

Who would be in your top 5 list of Malaysian PIs? Reply with your list below and if possible, state your reasons.

I agree to NI 1,2, and 4. No 3 and 5 definitely no.

Do we only have a few who think

While there are more around who stink

When the majority don't even bother to blink

So we beg the question "Where's the missing link?"

    1. Prof KS Jomo- he is smart but underrated.

    2. Dr Mahathir- Yeah, not a popular choice but I think he is one of the smartest PM that Malaysia ever had. Of course his acts sometimes suggest otherwise.
